Amounts arising out of fraud or forgeries are also a ‘debt’. It is an amount ‘due’ and will have to be paid back as if it were a debt. The Debts Recovery Tribunals have jurisdiction to adjudicate dues arising out of fraud.

Objection to an issue cannot be raised for the first time before DRAT. If a particular statement fact was not opposed before DRT, it cannot be done so before DRAT too.

Don’t go for fishing expedition in DRAT.
|
 The DRAT only hears appeals against orders passed by the lower authorities. It has no jurisdiction to hear original issues nor issues on which there is no order of a lower functionary. Similarly, the DRAT is not a authority which can hear petitions in the nature of PIL to cure general ills. And some one found it out the hard way.
